I’m always craving for fried chicken. Most of the time, I look for Pancake House or KFC. Sometimes Shakey’s. Occasionally RACKS. But today, I want Bucky’s.
I know Bucky’s as the not-a-brownie thing. So I was surprised when my friend Margaux asked me to meet her there for lunch. Oh they have a restaurant? And they have more than just not-brownies?
“Maybe you’re only having dessert, maybe you should eat before meeting her,” suggested an equally-bewildered Marilen.
“I just came here for the ice cream,” Margaux announced as she sauntered into the tiny Poblacion joint.
Well, I wasn’t about to settle for ice cream for my meal. I ordered potato chips (P90), fried chicken (P330), and Swedish meatballs (P350).
Everything got a thumbs up from us. We were already going “sarap nito ha!” just with the potato chips. Mababaw lang kami. Or matakaw lang?
The boneless double-fried chicken served with country gravy and roasted garlic was soooo good (very tasty, super tender) that I had to order rice, bitin kung mashed potatoes lang. Alas, I was told they don’t serve rice!
Huwaaaatttt??? At all? As in you don’t have rice in the restaurant?!? I had to double, triple check with the waitress. Wala daw talaga. Oh mehn. Right then and there, I decided I will not eat at this restaurant ever again! Instead, I will call and order the fried chicken, drive by to pick it up, and eat it at home with looooots of rice! Hmph.
Felt the same way about the Angus beef meatballs. I needed rice with it! Not the resto’s fault, I just really love rice and eat rice with (almost) everything.
We ended our meal with milk soft serve ice cream (they also have it in strawberry) in a cone (P120). Yummy!
Bucky’s has only about five tables inside good for maybe 20 persons, the space is really tight so it’s not a place to go to when you have juicy secrets to share but if you want a juicy chicken meal (remember: no rice, groan), yes, go!
Parking is a challenge so bring a driver or just Uber it if you don’t want to be stressed.
Service is efficient but there seems to be this air of unhappiness among the staff. Parang you have to apologize before requesting for anything. Sorry, can I have some more water please? Sorry, can we order dessert now? Sorry, puede makuha yung bill? Maybe they were just having a bad day. Or maybe the staff meals didn’t have rice either. Tsk tsk!
Bucky’s Poblacion is at 5666 Don Pedro Street, Makati. For inquiries, call (0916) 754 5140.
