It was 10:30 in the evening when Penk Ching’s message came in. She was apologizing for texting late and was asking for my address. She said she wants to send me her new gourmet products. I was expecting a cake or box of pastries, she is the Philippines’ cake queen, after all.
Instead, packs of potato chips showed up at my doorstep.
Am I disappointed? No way!
Labels that say “Truffle and Chips” and “Spicy Pork Floss and Chips” can only excite. Eat My Spuds, who am I not to obey?
Puro secret ‘no? Aside from Penk Ching, the other folks behind these hush-hush concoctions are Singapore-based Margaret Cu and Dennis Hipolito. Dennis’ sister, Yvette Hipolito and Penk’s sister, Shen Ratilla.
If you put together the first letters of their names, you come up Eat MY SPuDs. What about the letter U in the middle? Well, that’s for you and me – the customers! O diba?
“Ayaw na namin ng salted egg!,” Penk reacted when I asked why they chose these flavors. Plus these are their personal favorites. Will they stop at two? Of course not. Other variants are in the works, the next one will be rolled out by the first quarter of 2017.
Eat MY SPuDs is priced at P325 per pack. Bulk buyers get a discount. I think everyone will want to buy in big quantities because it’s so addicting! Don’t expect to be able to stop at five bites, you’ll want to eat five kilos!
