Cher: Hi Nana. Are you a fan of Channing Tatum?
Me: Not really fan as in I watch all his movies and know all about him… But yeah, I think he is super duper cute.

And just like that I landed myself a seat at the press screening of the movie “Jupiter Ascending” as Cher’s “plus one”.

Thanks Cher!

Thanks for the movie treat, Cher!

Of course, prior to accepting the invitation, I had to look up the trailer, just to make sure it is not some horror flick. I cannot watch anything scary. Nasisira ang buhay ko! Because I get too scared that I can’t go about my normal routine.I dread having to go to the bathroom, I can’t sleep alone, I jump at the slightest sound. And it takes me days to get back to normal.

Turns out that the movie is about Jupiter Jones, played by Mila Kunis who discovers her extraordinary inheritance with Caine (Channing) by her side.

So no ghosts! Only some weird creatures and fat, giant lizards. Not a lovely sight, but puede na. Kaysa naman multo! If there’s anything that bothered me, it was Channing’s goatee. Turned me off big time. So no drooling and swooning while watching.

I still got butterflies in my stomach though, from watching in 3D. IMAX is not a treat for me. I can only watch for a few minutes, otherwise, I get really dizzy. Pang-short films lang ako. Parang “Captain EO”, ganun. Meron pa ba nu’n sa Disneyland? Hehe.

Needless to say, I couldn’t focus on the movie because I was concentrating on not throwing up. Despite that, I managed to:
(1) Notice Mila Kunis’ accessories, I liked two of the necklaces she wore.
(2) Take note of some quotable quotes such as:
– Trust is an illusion
– Love is just urges and obligations
– Time is the single most precious commodity in the universe
– The more you care the more the world finds ways to hurt you

The last one is my favorite.

So, was the movie good? I think it was too ambitious, like it was trying to be too many big things so it missed out on a lot of important little things. You know how when you try so hard to be profound that you end up not making sense (like I am doing now)? Parang ganu’n yung movie. O baka naman feeling ko lang ‘yun kasi hilung-hilo ako!

I actually want to watch it again at a regular cinema. I think it (and Channing too!) deserves a second chance and my full attention.
